To “Hold Space” has become the buzz term in the relational world of coaches, facilitators and care nurses. I’ve now had several friends complain to me when I use the term loosely. “What does that even mean?” they’d ask. A colleague, frustrated with the ubiquity of the term at work, put it best: holding space basically means “being a decent human being”, “being there” for someone else. Goodness knows we all need some of that in an era of global pandemic that has us at a loss of how to wrap our heads – and our hearts – around what is actually happening.
