Our core values are truthfulness, compassion, neutrality, discernment, integration, and excellence. When we make any decision, we check in with ourselves to make sure that we are being kind to others and make an effort to understand where they are coming from. We aim to take the middle road and not go to extremes on issues, allowing people to think for themselves, and not coaching with hidden expectations or our own agendas. Although being neutral and unbiased is important, we also choose to have discernment in what we allow into the coaching sessions, and making judgment calls with a sound moral, ethical, and legal understanding, combined with intuition and best judgment. We also value our own integration efforts as individuals and as a company as vitally important to helping other people successfully integrate positive changes into their lives.

We value excellence in everything we do,
going above and beyond, showing hospitality,
and offering next-level coaching services.

OUR STORY

Being True to You was founded in August of 2010 in Tempe Arizona by Deanne Adamson to provide life coaching for teenagers. As someone who struggled in her teens herself, Deanne wanted to help teenagers wake up quicker in life. She thought that by connecting with something more positive and meaningful that she could help teens focus their energy in a healthy way. Rather than rebelling against the culture by turning away from family and tradition and engaging in an unprincipled, risky, and often self-destructive lifestyle, teens could instead rebel against the nefarious machine that runs our society by taking up the path of personal development and spiritual cultivation from a younger age. They could avoid many of the pitfalls and detours that block personal and spiritual awakening and add unnecessary obstacles to the human experience. Being True To You did and has continued to work with many teens with great success.

However, within that first year of starting Being True To You, something else unusual popped up that quickly turned this new venture toward addiction recovery coaching for adults. Teens are not always ready to go within and do the deep work, but young adults whose lives are threatened by chronic addiction, suicidal ideation, jail sentences, homelessness, unemployment, and not feeling wanted by people- these individuals are more committed to showing up for the work. They can feel themselves slipping away, they know they have to face reality, and under the right conditions, they made great coaching clients. So how did Being True to You go from coaching teens understanding themselves in this world, to coaching young adults through addiction?

In 2011, Deanne was introduced to an entheogenic plant substance called ibogaine that was used for addiction detox. In just one visit to Mexico to observe patients undergoing the near 24-hour visionary experience, Deanne saw the 180 degree shift in almost every person treated. Individuals were going in addicted to opiates or heroin, and coming out with basically no withdrawal or cravings. Not only were their bodies detoxed and not needing or craving the drugs, but other addictions and bad thoughts and habits had vanished as well. The state of “being” following ibogaine was one of peace, acceptance, truth and realization, embodiment, and a recalibration of one’s true north in life.

In talking to these clients though, there was no aftercare support. People were getting a second chance at life and then returning to life as normal, so naturally the results were fading or just lacking due to an absence of integration. This is when the fate and future of Being True To You was discovered. Being True To You was to develop not only an integration coaching platform for people to be supported following major transformational experiences, but rather a preparation and integration coaching program. Ibogaine, and entheogenic substances in general, can open up people’s deep psychological past, most vulnerable parts, and physical body (with the intention for profound healing, cleansing, and restoration), which comes with a lot of processing, pain, and responsibility. To approach these immensely life-changing journeys without preparation and integration now feels a bit like going into the jungle for a 2-week voyage without a map and plan, or tools, skills-training, and resources.

This is when Deanne and a few counselors started providing virtual aftercare coaching services to clients pre and post treatment. This started developments toward our transformational recovery and psychedelic preparation and integration coaching model. And since the beginning, the demand has continued to grow. With such a high demand for before-and-aftercare recovery coaching, as well as preparation and integration with entheogens, the Being True To You program continues to develop. Deanne always appreciated what these entheogenic and psychedelic medicines were able to do for people who felt their life was in ruins, or who felt stuck and wanted to explore a higher path in life, or just better understand themselves and this life. But Deanne did not want the mission to be about something external outside of ourselves, so the focus has always stayed on the inner work of the “individual” itself, and not the technology, technique, or medicines people use to assist in that process.

In 2013, the coaching contractors involved with Being True To You started requesting that Deanne produce a coach training program to explain how to help people through addiction without taking a medical or professional approach and just sticking to coaching. They also wanted to understand the emergence of psychedelic therapies in people’s transformational process- such as what are the nature of these so-called medicines, and how can we help people make well informed decisions and guide them through the preparation and integration surrounding these experiences. The first training was launched in 2013 as a 12-level addiction recovery and psycho-spiritual coach training program. Then the coach training and certification program became a 16-level, then a 20-level, then a 25-level, and now a 30-level coach certification program with several senior instructors and training features.

Being True To You has continued to work with individuals undergoing ibogaine treatment on the purpose of recovering permanently from addiction. However, Being True To You has also been coaching people for many years through other kinds of transformational and entheogenic experiences and minor or major life transitions. Training coaches throughout North America, and from different parts of Europe, Australia, South and Central America and beyond, Being True To You developed quite a diverse and eclectic team specializing in many different states of suffering and holistic healing modalities to be able to help people from many different backgrounds and cultures. The commonality noticed was human suffering, and the desire to overcome that suffering. In time, the mission developed and continues today, to help people use their condition, circumstance, addiction, or chronic suffering as a launching pad for personal transformation leading to the path of the true self.

Being True to You continues to serve thousands of people a year and is growing rapidly.
